Every year our school district hosts our community Veterans with a parade of Veterans Day programs. Each school across the district puts on their own version, and the community travels throughout two days to experience them all. My first year it seemed like a daunting task - how to make a program that the whole school can participate in, doesn't take too long, and is enjoyable for someone who has already sat through anywhere from 1-10 of them.

I love using the music from Music K8 for my school programs. They are affordable, and easily adaptable to a wide range of ages. My kindergarteners learn the chorus to every song, then as they grow up they learn more until they are in 3rd / 4th grade and know the whole song and can sing parts if needed. www.plankroadpublishing.com is where I go to buy the individual pieces. They run about $15 each.

I wrote a script a few years back for my oldest students to read at our Veterans Day program. 17 different students get to say about 1 sentence each into the microphone. I let them put their names into a drawing and we make a big deal out of it. They love it - and even though there's always some disappointment, I'm always amazed at how many students cheer for their friend's names that get drawn.

Here's the link to my Veterans Day Script on TPT, and it comes with the song suggestions that I use in our program from Music K8. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Veterans-Day-Program-Script-Elementary-14411225

Happy Veterans Day - and thank you to the men and women who serve for our country!
